Kaleidoscope
The Concordia Symphony Orchestra (CSO) opens its 2014–15 season with Pierre Mercure’s Kaleidoscope, the inspiration for the theme of this concert. As with a kaleidoscope, Mercure’s first orchestral work is a constantly changing pattern of sonorities and colour.
For its second work of the afternoon, the CSO is honoured to have two of Alberta’s finest pianists, Michael Massey and Janet Scott Hoyt, join them for Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos. This concerto also has an element of the kaleidoscope, since Poulenc interjects Indonesian gamelan, French café-concert, and of course classical music into his work. The last piece of the afternoon should bathe the audience in warmth and light: Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D Major.
Tickets are $15 for Adults and $12 for Students and Seniors, and are available at Tix on the Square (http://www.tixonthesquare.ca/event/detail/9084 or 780.420.1757), Concordia Student Accounts, or at the door. Special Family Admission: $40 (available at the door only).
