CUE Student, Connor Riddlesden, Publishes in Undergraduate Math Journal
Posted on: Jan 18, 2021The Faculty of Science, the Office of Research Services, and CUE Library would like to congratulate Connor Riddlesden on the recent publication of his paper entitled Generalised Fibonacci Sequences under Modular Arithmetic in the Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal.
Abstract: In this paper, we find patterns and count the number of distinct generalised Fibonacci sequences under modular arithmetic. We will start with the repetition of the normal Fibonacci sequence modulo an integer, m, where m is greater than or equal to two and make connections to its dependency on the prime factorisation of m. We will then extend the complexity of the problem into generalised Fibonacci sequences with different starting values. Finally we will present some interesting observations that are still open problems.
Connor produced this paper during the 2018-2019 academic year while studying at Concordia University of Edmonton as part of an exchange program. This research was overseen by Dr. Ha Tran, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Physical Sciences at CUE, and Dr. Amy Feaver, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Computing Science at The King’s University. Connor has since completed his undergraduate degree at Coventry University in England and is currently working towards his Master’s degree in mathematics at University of Lethbridge in southern Alberta.
The Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal publishes works by undergraduates on topics related to mathematics and is sponsored by the Mathematics Department at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.
