Welcome Dr. Kaitlyn Towle-Straub!

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kaitlyn Towle-Straub to the Faculty of Science and the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences as a Laboratory Instructor in the Chemistry program. Kaitlyn started with us just before the holiday break and she has her office in the lower Guild Hall – G110.

Dr. Towle-Straub earned her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Alberta, Canada. She brings to the position a strong background in laboratory teaching having served as a Supervisory Laboratory Instructor for introductory organic chemistry laboratories at the University of Alberta. She comes to us from working at The Glycomics Network of Canada, where she created instructional videos for students on carbohydrate identification through NMR and Mass Spectrometry.

Dr. Towle-Straub is experienced in the operation and maintenance of various laboratory equipment, including, bench top FTIRs, HPLCs, ESI-MS, pH meters, UV/Vis spectrometers, NMRs and peptide synthesizers. As a highly interdisciplinary chemist, she has expertise in laboratory techniques ranging from chromatography to gel electrophoresis. She is UpToDate with many environmental health and safety modules, such as,WHIMIS 2015, biosafety, hazardous waste management, and laboratory and chemical safety.
