Thunder Men’s Volleyball Open Exhibition Season

Just as their female counterparts had done the day before, the Thunder Men's Volleyball team kicked off the 2013-14 campaign with a trip down to Ambrose University College in Calgary on Saturday for a pair of exhibition matches. Although the guys lost both matches (3-1 to Olds College 26-24, 25-14, 23-25, 25-21 and 3-2 to Ambrose 22-25, 26-24, 22-25, 25-20,15-8), Head Coach Joel Mrak still saw lots of promise in his new squad. "Considering that we have only practiced 4 days as a team, these early exhibition matches were a good break just to get the guys some experience at this level, especially with the number of rookies on this year's team. The wins/losses don't really matter too much at this point so we used the weekend to play with different lineups, putting guys in different positions and to get a sense of our starting point for the year. It was nice to see the team play with an explosive offense – something that was missing in previous years – and we'll just need to improve on the number of errors we make.
