Dr. Marcella Siqueira Cassiano is a Lecturer in Sociology at the Concordia University of Edmonton and the University of Alberta. Marcella holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Alberta and a master’s degree from Shandong University in China. Her research projects focus on population governance, particularly the policies, practices, and technologies that manufacture social conformity and regulate populations in the contexts of work and migration.
In her talk, Marcella will present the most popular workplace surveillance practices in the workcamps of Alberta’s oil sands region, and discuss their consequences from the perspective of employers and employees.
