Updates to campus: new student residence & Faculty of Education relocation

Faculty of Education Now in Braaksma Hall

This May, the Faculty of Education has officially moved into Braaksma Hall—a newly modernized building designed with students in mind. While Education students already have classes across campus, this move means you’ll likely see more Education courses held in Braaksma and other nearby buildings as the B. Ed After Degree program grows

As those already familiar with Braaksma Hall know, it features a student-centred design—with state-of-the-art lecture halls, labs, and purpose-built learning spaces in a connected, close-knit community environment. Several spaces have also been designed as active learning classrooms, with the Education program’s needs in mind.

On behalf of everyone at CUE, please help us welcome Education students and faculty to their new space in the coming weeks!

CUE a new student home

Construction begins this June on a new student residence directly west of the Ralph King Athletic Centre. It’s set to open in January 2027 and will offer an exceptional and affordable on-campus living environment—a new place to help our students grow, to provide an enriched academic experience and to foster lasting personal connections.

Bright Horizons Daycare Is Moving

If you or someone you know uses Bright Horizons Daycare, heads-up: it’s moving to the second floor of the Ralph King Athletic Centre starting May 26. That floor will be dedicated to daycare only and closed to students and faculty. The main floor will remain open.

This temporary move supports construction by Ever Red Real Estate Developments of The Luminary, a new residential and commercial building coming in 2027 to the current daycare site.

Both the new student residence and The Luminary align with the City of Edmonton’s sustainable growth strategy and development plans. These initiatives help address the regional housing crisis by adding much-needed student housing and by contributing to more diverse and accessible housing options near transit and core services like our university campus.

We’ll continue to keep students informed on facility updates, including any construction impacts and milestone events.

Let us celebrate our continued transformation into a sustainable, modern urban campus for learning, research, and community.
