‘Narrow Margins’ Sums up Season for Men’s Soccer
Posted on: Oct 26, 2015One goal…Narrow margins…Men's Soccer needed something from a weekend away to Kings and home to NAIT to qualify for the post season. The Thunder have had to go through the pain of learning a valuable lesson after drawing at Kings 1-1 and coming up short at home to NAIT 4-2. "Had we found a 2nd goal on Saturday at Kings, or simply not conceded a sloppy 2nd half goal, we would be on our way to Fort McMurray feeling not to badly about ourselves. Now we have to look in the mirror and deal with the reality that we didn't meet the mark when we needed to," lamented a disappointed Coach Skitch. "Congratulations to Kings & Coach Oosterhuis though. I think it's a first for them to qualify for provincials and considering where they were last year, it's a remarkable achievement."
On Sunday the real story was our graduating Seniors. Justin Pucci, Captain James Sousa and Serhiy Adamyk have all been good servants of the program and will be missed. Marshall Mohammad also graduates but despite being a strong contributor, 2015 was his only year on the squad. We wish these players all the best moving forward onto their career paths. Coach Skitch summed up the year with these words: "Men's Soccer can take some solace in improvement over the 2014 season. They were a tougher team to beat, conceding 11 fewer goals and improved overall goal difference of +2 versus -6 last year. A similar improvement next year will see this group challenge for honours in 2016."
