Concordia History Professor Publishes Timely New Book

Dr. Tolly Bradford Co-Editor of Work on Christianity and Indigenous Peoples.
Mixed Blessings: Indigenous Encounters with Christianity in Canada, co-edited by Tolly Bradford and Chelsea Horton, has just been released by UBC Press. The chapters in this collection deal with the complexities of early and contemporary encounters between Indigenous peoples and Christianity, both from individual and community perspectives. According to the book description, "While acknowledging the harm of colonialism, including the trauma inflicted by church-run residential schools . . . the authors. . . illuminate the diverse and multifaceted ways that Indigenous communities and individuals across Canada have interacted, and continue to interact, meaningfully with Christianity." Dr. Bradford looks forward to using this book as part of his newly developed history course on the same topic. Dr. Bradford is an expert in the history of Canada's Indigenous Peoples, particularly as regards their relationship with Christianity, having also authored Prophetic Identities: Indigenous Missionaries on British Colonial Frontiers, 1850-75. His research and teaching experience promise to be most valuable to Concordia as it develops and implements its Indigenous Strategy. Congratulations, Tolly!
