Rustlers Sweep Thunder Women’s Volleyball
Posted on: Jan 18, 2016The Thunder faced one of the top teams in the league this past weekend and the Lakeland Rustlers showed why they are just that. On Friday night at home, the Thunder came out with guns blazing and won the first set but were controlled by the Rustlers the rest of the way and lost 25-17, 11-25, 14-25 and 14-25.
On Saturday in Lloydminster the team lacked focus and commitment to the system and in spite of coming very close in the first and second sets, were swept in 3-straight 25-22, 25-22 and 25-20. Rookie Setter Ryley Rizzoli was selected as the Player of the Match both nights.
Coach Turner's comments from weekend: "We lacked the desire to fight both nights mentally and made quite a few negative errors at key points in both matches. We are at the stage of the season where the good teams have cut down their errors and if we want to be successful we need to earn our points. Right now we are not doing that and are giving away too many easy points. We need to work on that this week going forward in our matches at Keyano."
The Thunder will head up to Ft. McMurray for the two-game road trip and will play Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
