The Thunder Men's Volleyball team have finally done what they've been on the verge of doing for weeks now: they secured that first match victory of the season. The boys came out slow in both Friday and Saturday's matches but rebounded Friday night – at home to the Lakeland Rustlers – by playing good ball in sets 2-5 and finally pulling out the much-deserved win 16-14 in the fifth set (14-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20 and16-14). Nick Dove played an excellent match coming off the bench during the first set and continued his strong play throughout the rest of the night.  Fifth year player and team Captain Alex Ingstrup also set a great match Friday.
Saturday's match out in Lakeland also started out slowly for the Thunder but they were able to push the first set to 16 extra points before succumbing to the Rustlers. After a poor 2nd set, the boys picked it up, winning the 3rd set. Unfortunately, they could not sustain that focus and fell in 4 sets (34-32, 25-9, 20-25 and 25-15). Coach Lucas Jacobson commented on the highs and lows of the weekend. "Men's Volleyball had a strange weekend. (Saturday) was a disappointing step back after a very encouraging first win on Friday night.  We get back to work Monday and look forward to trying to get another win (hopefully 2) this weekend when we travel to Ft. McMurray."
The team will head up to Keyano for the two away games that will go Friday night and Saturday afternoon in McMurray.
