CUE Strengthens Partnerships and Explores New Opportunities During Ireland Visit

President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Tim Loreman and Provost and Vice-President, Academic Dr. Barb van Ingen travelled to Ireland September 14–18, 2026, as part of an effort to strengthen international partnerships and explore new opportunities for CUE students, staff, and faculty.

Joining Alberta’s Partnership Mission to Ireland

CUE joined seven other Alberta post-secondary institutions and polytechnics on the Alberta Bureau for International Education (ABIE) Partnership Mission to Ireland, meeting with Ireland’s Higher Education Authority (HEA) and representatives from seventeen Irish higher education institutions across Dublin, Galway, and Limerick.

The trip gave CUE a chance to build new partnerships, deepen existing ones, and explore how global collaboration can elevate academic and research excellence and enrich the student experience.

New Agreements with Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design + Technology and Mary Immaculate College

The visit was highlighted with the signing of new partnership agreements with Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design + Technology (IADT) and Mary Immaculate College (MIC). These relationships will create opportunities to explore student and faculty mobility, research collaboration, academic pathways, internships, micro-credentials, and other forms of institutional cooperation.

“CUE is very excited to reach this milestone with IADT and MIC,” said Dr. Tim Loreman, President and Vice-Chancellor of CUE. “IADT’s strong track record in international partnerships and Canadian pathways provides an excellent foundation for collaboration, while MIC’s strengths in teacher education complement CUE’s flagship Education After-Degree program. We are excited about the possibilities ahead and look forward to working with both institutions to develop meaningful opportunities for our students, faculty and researchers.”

Turning Conversations into Opportunities

“This visit also marks an important starting point for CUE to leverage the resources, networks, and opportunities supported by the Alberta Bureau for International Education and the Higher Education Authority to further strengthen and expand our partnerships across continents,” said Dr. Barb van Ingen, Provost and Vice-President, Academic. “CUE leaders across Arts, Science, Management, Education, Graduate Studies, and Research are excited about these opportunities and have already begun following up on the conversations initiated in Ireland.”

CUE academic and research leadership will now focus on turning these connections made in Ireland into real-world opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers at CUE, such as mobility programs, academic pathways, collaborative research, and new forms of international engagement.
