Meet Your Peer Supporters

Hi there! My name is Mayrane Galante (she/her), but everyone calls me May (pronounced as “my) and I am in my fourth year of my BA in Psychology – Applied Emphasis Program. I’m Brazilian and have been in Canada since 2018. I’m the team lead for Peer Support and also the VP Academic for the CSA, so chances are that we will cross paths eventually ー don’t be shy to say hi! I have three cats: Chloe, Logan and Nala whose pictures occupy 99% of my phone’s memory. I’m a pretty laid-back person who loves music, movies and a good cup of coffee. I can’t wait to see you virtually or on campus! Take care! (:

Hi everyone! My name’s Becca (she/her) and I’m a returning member of the peer support team. I’m excited to continue my role with peer support this year, as well as take on the new challenge of support supervisor within the wellness and support team. I’m in my final year of my BA psychology here at CUE, as well as the 2021-2022 psych club president. I have two cats named Winston and Dorothy who both enjoy spending time outside and tripping me when I walk up the stairs. I spend my spare time making candles and practicing my embroidery. I’m looking forward to getting to work more closely with everyone in the CUE community and can’t wait to see what the next academic year brings.

Hello everybody! My name is Haylee Powder. I am a proud two-spirited Cree Métis person, and I am starting my third year of the 4-Year Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Psychology. Starting in September, I will be part of the Peer Support Team as well as focusing on Alcohol and Drug Awareness. I am currently Co-President of Concordia University of Edmonton’s Indigenous Fellowship. Some of my favorite activities are singing karaoke and visiting with friends. I was born and raised in Edmonton and joined the Peer Wellness & Support Team because I wanted to offer support to my fellow colleagues. Due to terrible recent events and this past year, there is a need for a community of support, and that is what I hope can be achieved and cannot wait to be a part of it.

Hello everyone! My name is Bianca Romano and my pronouns are she/her. I am going into my fifth year at Concordia as part of the Applied Emphasis Psychology program with a minor in philosophy! I cannot wait to be taking part in Peer Wellness group, specifically in social mental wellness and peer support team for the first time as I really want to be able to support others as much as possible. I am also going to be returning as VP of Marketing for the psychology club which I am also really looking forward to. I have a pet tortoise named Bowser who I like to spend some quality time eating strawberries with! I am a very active person and love doing any kind of physical activity outside like hiking and going for long walks in general! I also am very passionate about getting to know new people so I can’t wait to work with the community at CUE to make the 2021-2022 school year fun and exciting! Hope to see you all around (:

Hi! I’m Ajay (he/him). I was born and raised right here in Edmonton, Alberta. I’m heading into my 3rd year of the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program. I am going to be a part of the peer support team as well as the sexual health & sexual violence prevention team. I’m joining the Peer Wellness & Support Team because I understand the importance of being listened to and I hope to create an atmosphere where we can do that for others. Some of my hobbies include gaming, watching sports, and running. I am a diehard Tampa Bay Lightning fan and will chat all day about sports! I’m excited to grow and strengthen the community here at CUE!

Hi CUE peeps! My name is Joslin and I have just completed my last year of my psychology degree and am starting research in the fall. I am a member of the Peer Support Team and the Sexual Health and Sexual Violence Prevention Team (: Originally, I am from a small town in Northern Alberta and moved to Edmonton over a decade ago to go to university. I work in a school for youth who have experienced an interruption to their education and have been here for the past 3 years. I enjoy reading, building puzzles, animals, nature, yoga, swimming, and binge-watching Netflix shows. I am excited to be a part of the Wellness Team this year and I hope to help make CUE a more inclusive and supportive environment and help develop a sense of community.
