Innovation Launchpad @ CUE kick-off event

Featuring a 30-minute keynote session with Ashlyn Bernier, Samdesk.

The session also features a 30-minute presentation on Startup Steps from Business Link AB

Do you have an idea for a business but don’t know what the next steps are? How do you make sure your idea is a good one? How do you know your idea will fly? In this interactive session, Craig will take us through a process that will help you go forward with your idea. 

About the speaker:

Craig Elias is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence for Bow Valley College and helps post-secondary students become first-time entrepreneurs, while also running student pitch competitions, and the Innovation Rodeo – a five-day innovation and entrepreneurship event held during the Calgary Stampede. Craig has been chosen twice by LinkedIn as Canada’s #1 B2B Sales Expert (#15 globally for 2019).

Bring your creations to life. Learn why intellectual property matters

Thinking of an idea or an invention? Or maybe a business name, product design, or original artistic work? Come and join us in learning the basics of intellectual property (IP) and ways to protect, and use your IP. This session will be followed by a hands-on workshop for Innovation Launchpad @ CUE participants. 

Business model 101

Do you want to learn in and outs of writing a business plan but dread the 50 or so pager? Need hands-on support and feedback with your business design? Join us to create a one-page overview of your business Idea. 

This hands-on workshop will be presented by Startup Edmonton, a division of Edmonton Economic Development Corporation that supports entrepreneurs, developers, students, founders, mentors, and investors to transform ideas into some of Canada’s most exciting and successful startup and scaling companies.

Assessing the Market

Have you considered who your competition is? Who will be your customer? Also, what is your business worth potentially? In this workshop, you will learn some tools and techniques to access the market.  

Funding a Start-Up

Preparing a pitch

Date and time: TBD 

Attend this mock-pitch event where you can obtain feedback on your business idea, practice presentation in front of a friendly but seasoned audience and polish your idea even further. Participants will be provided with a format for preparing their presentations in advance. This event will prepare you to participate in several pitch competitions -both inside and outside CUE.

Pitch competition and showcase event

(likely 4th week of March 2021)

This event will be a showcase of business pitches prepared by students. The pitches will be judged by a panel of expert judges from the innovation and entrepreneurship community in Edmonton. Prizes and pitch format will be announced closer to the event!
