Dr. McConaghy has 27 years of experience as an elementary classroom teacher, curriculum coordinator, language arts consultant, and reading specialist with Edmonton Public Schools. Dr. McConaghy’s experience also includes extensive professional development work with preservice and practicing classroom teachers. As well, she has taught Language Arts at two universities in Alberta.
Dr. McConaghy’s graduate work focussed on the curriculum area of language and literacy development and the relationship between language and thought within the context of the social and pedagogical approach of dialogic teaching. Her graduate research included a study of the power of children’s literature in the teaching and learning of Social Studies.
Dr. McConaghy serves as Vice President and Chair of the professional development committee of the Northern Alberta Reading Specialists’ Council (NARSC). She is on faculty at Concordia University of Edmonton as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education.
