Mental Health Week is an annual national event that takes place during the first week in May to encourage people from all walks of life to learn, talk, reflect and engage with others on all issues relating to mental health. In 2015, Concordia created a Mental Health Action Team (MHAT), comprised of key stakeholders responsible for addressing mental health on campus. The MHAT looks at mental health more broadly than just the absence of mental illness, but instead how to build and sustain mental wellness and flourishing. Staying mentally healthy is like staying physically healthy – it requires effort every day. Mental health means striking a balance in all aspects of your life: social, physical, spiritual, economic and mental. Reaching a balance is a learning process, and if you would like to talk to a counsellor, Concordia offers free and confidential counselling to students. #GetLoud
Over the past year, Concordia Students' Association executives consistently lobbied the provincial government for funding towards mental health initiatives for post-secondary students. It is exciting to see a one-year continuation of funding for mental health in the 2016 Budget. This means a continuation of the services and supports provided by the CSA Mental Health initiative….good news for all students!
