Concordia’s Master of Information Systems Security Management (MISSM) and Master of Information Systems Assurance Management (MISAM), invite applications for multiple Graduate Assistant positions. These positions will be available to start at the beginning of the Fall 2019 academic term.

Course:

ISSM521 – TCP/IP Security

Number of positions:

Contract duration: One semester (Fall 2019)
GA Duties & Qualification Requirements:

The ISSM 521 TCP/IP Security Graduate Assistant (GA) primary role will be to assist the students in completing their lab assignments and projects. The GA will lead the delivery of (weekly) labs, including the demonstration of the basic commands in environment, and assist with exam proctoring. The GA will need to have excellent overall proficiency with the Cisco switching / routing and Linux (Kali Linux) OS and excellent communication skills. The GA will need to have obtained marks in TCP/IP B+. Preference will be given to CCNA holders.

Course:

ISAM522 A – Information Systems Audit II

Number of positions:

GA Duties & Qualification Requirements:

The GA’s primary role will be to assist students in conducting their assignments, supervise and demonstrate labs and assist with exam proctoring.  GA will be required to attend the weekly classes.

GA must have passed ISAM521 and ISAM522 courses with a minimum of B+. This position requires a reliable and punctual individual who can communicate in an effective and respectful manner with other students taking the course.  Knowledge of penetration testing methods (CEH certification is a plus).

ISSM503 A – Operating Systems Security

Number of positions:

GA Duties & Qualification Requirements:

ISSM 503 OS Security Graduate Assistant (GA) primary role will be to assist the students in conducting their assignments, guiding them in delivery of labs, and supporting them in the learning process. Lab responsibilities include demonstrating lab setup in Oracle virtual box or VM ware environments using Windows Server OS, Windows OS XP, 7, and 10 as well as Linux OS and various security tools for hardening systems,  enforcing security policies, and penetration testing. The GA will need to have a general  proficiency in the aforementioned operating systems and achieved at least an A- in OS Security.

ISSM553 D – Governance, Risk and Control

GA Duties & Qualification Requirements:

ISSM 553 D Governance, Risk, and Control Graduate Assistant (GA) primary role will be to assist the students in conducting their assignments, guiding them in delivery of labs, and leading study groups to support the labs, assignments, and knowledge consumed in class. The GA may also need to assist in some administrative duties such as maintaining attendance records and note taking during student presentations.  The GA should have strong critical thinking and communications skills as well as possessing proficient English writing skills.  A grade of at least A- in Governance, Risk, and Control course is required.

The ISSM 533 Graduate Assistant (GA) primary role will be to assist the students in conducting their assignments and final project. The GA will lead the delivery of (weekly) labs, including the demonstration of the installation and use of tools and solutions presented in class, and assist with exam proctoring. The GA will need to have excellent overall proficiency with the Linux and Windows operating system in Virtual Environments as well as excellent communication skills. The GA will need to have obtained marks in Digital Forensics of at least A- ; an excellent grade in TCP/IP and Cryptography and Advanced Network Security is also an asset.

GA must have taken and passed ISSM 551 with a min. grade of A-.   GA will be required to attend the some of the weekly classes and will be in charge of supervising all course related labs and exam proctoring. The person chosen must be able to communicate in an effective and respectful manner with other students taking the course.

ISSM 525 – Securing an E-Commerce Infrastructure

GA Duties & Qualification Requirements:

The Graduate Assistant (GA) primary role will be to assist the students in conducting their labs. The GA will lead the delivery of (weekly) labs, including the demonstration of the installation and use of security tools presented in class, and assist with exam proctoring. The GA will need to have excellent overall proficiency with:

– Web programming experience (HTML, PHP, SQL, JavaScript)

– Experience with web applications and content management systems such as WordPress

– Cloud infrastructure, web hosting, and virtualization experience, including familiarity with web environments including Apache web server and MariaDB/MySQL database server

– Knowledge of web security including OWASP Top 10 risks and penetration testing tools

– Practical experience with security hardening at operating system, web server, database server, and web application levels, including firewall. The GA will need to have obtained marks in Securing an E-Commerce Infrastructure of at least A-.

The GA will be assisting ISSM 538 Research Methods I students in selecting, reviewing and understanding selected problems in information systems security and assurance.

Requirements:

(1)    Completed ISSM 538 Research Methods I with grade Excellent (3.7, A-) or better;

(2)    Excellent writing and communication skills.

ISSM 535 –  Firewall Fundamentals

GA Duties & Qualification Requirements:

The ISSM 535 Firewall Fundamentals Graduate Assistance (GA) will guide the students in their weekly lab assignments which involve a complex firewall architecture design in internetworks populated with various TCP/IP clients and servers. Also help in implementation of the architecture design in multi-environment (Cisco IOS, OpenBSD Operating systems). The GA will support the students in the deliverable of their final course project, and assist with exam proctoring. The GA will need to have a good experience working with Cisco ASA, Linux/Unix Operating systems and also possess good communication skills. The G.A will need to have obtained marks in TCP/IP, Firewall Fundamentals and Advanced Network Security (ANS) of at least A- grade.

GA Duties & Qualification Requirements:

The ISSM543 System development and project management Graduate Assistant’s (GA) primary role will be to assist in conducting and assessing labs. The GA will conduct several sessions to assist students with the installation of any application required to conduct the lab and assist students with questions or concerns.

The GA should have completed ISSM543 with at least A- grade and should have a good understanding of the basic concepts of Project Management. GA also needs to have good problem solving abilities and excellent communication skills. Relevant work experience with project management would be an asset.

The Graduate Assistant’s primary role will be to conduct and assess various ISSM 541 labs and assignments, as well as proctoring tests, in addition to any other tasks assigned.   The GA needs to be present for all scheduled classes and available outside class hours in order to assist ISSM 541 students with questions or concerns.

The GA should have completed ISSM541 with at least A- grade and should have a solid understanding of the core concepts of both financial and managerial accounting. GA also needs to have good problem solving abilities and excellent communication skills.

ISSM 545

Number of positions:

GA Duties & Qualification Requirements:

Requirements

  • Must have taken the IS 545 and obtained a grade of at least A-.
    Must be available to students physically or virtually to help resolve any technical concerns with assigned homework.
    Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Must be present during the first and last class and whenever needed by the instructor.
  • Will be required to help with exams invigilation.
  • Preference will be given to an applicant who has any of these certifications COBIT, ITIL and /or ISO 27000 certification.

Duties

  • Must be able to attend the weekly class schedule and also be available to students needing extra assistance after class.
  • Selected candidate will be assigned other GA duties, as needed.
  • Develop the lab with guidance from the instructor.
  • Tutor and coach the students on the lab and ensures implementation of the same is achieved by the students.
  • Liaise with instructor to remind the students of upcoming deadlines and Project’s deliverable; work with students to help them with the final presentations.
