Associate Professor – Clinical Psychology / Director of Clinical Research and Program Development

Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) has an exciting new faculty position to build and lead a new Clinical Psychology program with prime clinic space in our new Allan Wachowich Center for Science and Research Innovation. CUE invites applications for a faculty member who will also serve as the Director of Clinical Research and Program Development for a proposed Doctor of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) program in the Department of Psychology within the Faculty of Arts.

Reporting to the Dean of Arts, the Director will initially work together with CUE’s administration, the Government of Alberta (Advanced Education), and the Psychology Department to finalize and secure the PsyD program approval.  Upon receiving final approval, the Director’s role will involve responsibilities for PsyD course development, research training, comprehensive examinations, dissertation supervision, and teaching. We will be seeking full Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) accreditation for the program.  The Director will also work in consultation with the PsyD program Advisory Council that includes internal and external members who will support the Director’s work.  Accordingly, the successful candidate will have a PsyD or PhD and internship in Clinical Psychology (accredited by CPA or APA), with eligibility for registration as a psychologist in Alberta.

The position requires an individual with a strong research and supervision record and the capacity to work with students and colleagues to develop ongoing clinical research specialties. The Director of Clinical Research and Program Development will also be responsible for administering clinical practice, the internship application process, and students’ clinical professional development.

CUE’s Psychology Department offers 3-year and 4-year Bachelor of Arts degrees in addition to graduate certificate and diploma programs in psychological assessment. The proposed PsyD program will seek to enhance students’ abilities to better understand and work clinically with culturally diverse individuals and groups, particularly those who identify as First Nation, Métis, Inuit, or other Indigenous peoples.

Requirements for the position include:

  • A PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA-accredited program or equivalent.
  • University-level teaching experience in a clinical program; more than five years is preferred.
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, full registration as a Psychologist, in good standing, in a Canadian province or territory.
  • A demonstrated record of a strong research program, through a record of scholarly publication, grant funding, and supervision of graduate students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially as a team leader and member.

In addition, the successful candidate must assume academic administrative duties and will be committed to building professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the mental health community.
