Assistant Professor – Education

The Faculty of Education at Concordia University of Edmonton invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Education. The position is available to begin July 1, 2019.

The Faculty of Education works to strengthen the understanding of, and commitment to an embedded approach to Indigenous Peoples’ Historical and Cultural Topics, and to comprehensive school health and wellness. Preference will be given to the candidate who has an extensive background and/or scholarship in Indigenous Peoples’ education and culture. The preferred candidate will be of Indigenous heritage. Along with teaching in the BEd (after degree), in the Education undergraduate program and possibly at the graduate level, the successful candidate will support the implementation and application of the foundational knowledge and Concordia’s embedded approach to Indigenous Peoples’ historical and cultural topics.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Earned Doctorate in Education or completion of doctorate prior to December 31, 2019;
- Demonstrated contributions to the undergraduate program, including teaching undergraduate courses.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- A minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level in Alberta schools, especially in schools with Indigenous programs and/or Indigenous Education Authorities;
- The ability to speak and understand Cree;
- Expertise in additional domains including instruction, planning, assessment, or educational technology; and
- Demonstrated contributions to the graduate program, including teaching of graduate courses and supervising graduate students.
Priority will be given to applicants whose research and scholarship include one or more of the following areas:
- Indigenous Studies/Native Studies
- English Language Arts Education
- Educational Psychology
- Mathematics Education.
The normal undergraduate teaching assignment is 9 contact hours per semester in the first year and 12 contact hours per semester for subsequent years. In addition, the successful candidate must assume academic administrative duties and will be committed to growing the diversity of and building professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the broader community.
