Jenkins Wins Gold for Thunder XC

By Concordia on October 29, 2012 in Athletics

The Thunder Cross Country team made the trip down to Camrose for the 2012 ACAC Champs in what were the coldest conditions for a Championship race since coach Matt Norminton took over the program 4 years ago.

The women were up first and it was clear from the start that the Gold Medal was going to be contested by 2 ladies, MacEwan's Alex Gordichuck and the Thunder's Marriya Jenkins. By 2.5km, the Thunder's Jenkins had pulled well clear of Gordichuck Norminton's only advice to his young star at this point was "to not take her foot off the accelerator until the finish" and Jenkins took this advice to heart, winning the race in her 2nd fastest 5km time ever (fastest time of the 2012 season). Jenkins will move on to the CCAA Championships being held in Montreal in 2 weeks’ time.
