Women’s Soccer Secure 2nd Seed in ACAC North

Posted on: Oct 19, 2015

The Concordia Women's Soccer team went into the weekend undefeated with the opportunity to lay claim to the number one seed in the upcoming ACAC Championship. The Thunder's objective on Saturday? Beat the high-powered offense of NAIT and number one would be theirs.  The Thunder ladies possessed the run of play throughout the match – which including several breakaways – but were unable to secure the victory and lost by a score of 2-1.  The game, laden as it was with playoff implications, came at a high cost for Concordia.  The Thunder lost Striker and dual athlete Shyanne Walton to a broken clavicle and she will miss the remainder of the season.   On a positive note, rookie Jaida Stasiuk continued her goal-a-game pace by scoring Concordia’s lone goal.
Sunday’s match against Grande Prairie was a typical ‘grind it out affair’ as the Wolves were motivated to seek revenge from week one when they lost to Concordia 4-1.  Both teams exchanged goals in the second half and finished with a 1-1 tie.  Again, the Thunder struggled to capitalize on their chances, including a couple of breakaways during the match.  Kalie Berezowski scored her first goal of the season and was dominating the flank play throughout the match.   With the point earned in the match, Concordia has secured the second seed in the ACAC North with two games left to play in the season.
