The New Four-Year Major

The English Department is excited to announce a major update to the Four-Year Major in English. This change will come into effect in the fall of 2017. Students already in the program will be able to adopt the new program or follow the current calendar.

The new major will replace both the Basic Program and the Enhanced Program. The result is a more streamlined, flexible program that will suit all our students:

English Four-Year Major

42-60 credits required, to include:

a) 6 credits of first year ENG

b) 6 credits chosen from ENG 323, 324, 330, 331, 338, 339 (Medieval and Renaissance courses)

c) 6 credits chosen from ENG 341, 342, 343, 350, 354, 356 (18th and 19th century courses)

d) One of ENG 365, 366, or 367 (20th century British courses)

e) One of ENG 381, 382, 383, or 384 (Canadian courses)

f) One of ENG 392, 393, 394, 395 (American courses)

g) One of WRI 300, WRI 310, WRI 391, WRI 392 (Writing courses)

h) 3 credits from the ENG 401-425 series or from ENG 480 (special topics and independent study courses)

i) ENG 491 or ENG 492 (literary theory courses)

j) 6-24 credits of unspecified senior-level ENG or WRI courses.
