What is a Concordia General Award?
The Concordia General Awards Program is a competitive awards program funded by donors and organizations. There are many different types of scholarships which range in value from $350 to $3,000. You are encouraged to read through the Concordia General Awards List to see which ones you might be eligible for.
How many scholarships can I apply for?
There are over 50 different scholarships which are grouped into three categories:
• Service/Leadership Awards
• Program Specific Awards (Arts, Science, Management, Education)
• Lutheran Awards
When you select a category(s), you will be considered for all the scholarships in that group. You may select one or all three categories.
Who is eligible to apply?
All full-time domestic and international undergraduate degree students registered in the fall term and winter terms are eligible to apply. Students registered in part-time studies and students registered in Open Studies or a graduate degree program are not eligible to apply. Students who begin their studies in winter term are not eligible to apply until the following academic year.
I am an international student. Can I apply for a Concordia General Award?
International students may apply for a Concordia General Award provided they are registered full-time in an undergraduate degree program.
I’m an Open Studies student. Can I apply for awards?
Open studies students are not eligible to apply for awards. Once you are accepted to an undergraduate degree program, you can apply for Concordia General Awards.
How do I apply?
You must submit an application using the online application form on Concordia University of Edmonton’s website through Online Services for Students. Students can submit an online application anytime during the application period – November 15th – January 15th.
When is the deadline?
The deadline to apply is January 15. In addition, you must submit two letters of reference within 5 business days of the published deadline. Late applications and reference forms will not be accepted. NOTE: When the January 15th deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, online applications will be accepted up to the end of the next business day.
How many reference letters do I need to submit?
Two reference letters are required from each applicant.
- Constable Peter Schiemann Memorial Scholarship – submit 3 letters of reference (one each from a member of the RCMP, a current or former professor or teacher, and your pastor).
- Wildeman Scholarship in Music – submit at least one letter of reference from a faculty member in the School of Music.
How do I submit my reference letters?
Reference letters can be submitted in person or by mail to the Enrolment Services Office – HA 120. To ensure confidentiality, all reference letters must be sealed and signed by the referee across the sealed flap. Reference letters that are hand-delivered and not properly sealed will not be accepted.

Can my reference letters be faxed?
We do not accept faxed reference letters.
How do I know if my letters of reference have arrived?
Call or email the Financial Aid and Awards Office before the deadline to inquire.
Can I submit a hand-written application form?
All applications must be submitted using the online form. We do not accept faxed, emailed or printed application forms.
Why do I have to provide financial information?
Awards that have “financial need” as part of the award criteria require the completion of the financial information section. Financial information is used to determine your financial need.
Can my personal essay be more than 500 words?
The online application only allows for 500 words. We suggest you write your essay in advance and copy and paste your essay from a word doc into the online application.
What types of extra-curricular activities should I include on my application?
We encourage applicants to include all activities that they have been involved with over the last three years. A thorough and complete listing will help your application to show that you meet the award criteria.
How do I know if my application has been successfully submitted?
After submitting your application you will receive a confirmation number.
Who do I contact if I have technical difficulties with the online awards application?
Call the Concordia ID Help Desk at 316 or visit the IT Help Desk located in the library. Other application concerns may be directed to a Financial Aid Advisor.
Can I make changes to my application after it has been submitted?
Once you have submitted your application you will no longer have access to it. To make changes or add additional information to your application send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
When will I find out if I received an award?
Successful applicants are notified by mail and email in early March if they have received an award. A list of award recipients is also posted on the Financial Aid Brochure rack (HA120) and on the Financial Aid and Awards website.
