Embedded Approach to Indigenous Peoples’ Historical & Cultural Topics

The land on which Concordia University of Edmonton is situated is Treaty 6 territory and a traditional meeting ground and home for many Indigenous peoples, including Cree, Salteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, and Nakota Sioux peoples.

It is the task of Canada’s education system to learn about Indigenous historical and cultural topics, ensuring that our educators in turn nurture and foster forward-thinking, positive educational practices, acknowledging and developing an understanding of the contribution of Canada’s Indigenous peoples, thereby forging change.

Concordia University of Edmonton therefore engaged Indigenous consultants to support the development of an institutional Indigenous strategy, and in doing so, the Faculty of Education has adopted the following Embedded Approach to Indigenous Peoples’ Historical and Cultural Topics.
