Alumni Relations Officer

Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) is a small university offering undergraduate and professional programs in arts, science, and management; post‐degree programs in education and public health; master’s degrees; and graduate certificates and diplomas. Its 95‐year history makes it one of the oldest post‐secondary institutions in the province, with a rich tradition and excellent reputation. CUE enrolls 2,000 students annually at its campus near the city’s northeast river valley. Although it is legally an independent academic institution, CUE operates as a public university and is one of five such institutions in Alberta that receives provincial operating grants.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience of delivering successful alumni engagement and campaigns who wishes to hone their fundraising skills into building a dynamic alumni program with Concordia University of Edmonton. You bring with you a talent for shaping and designing alumni programs to ensure that Concordia meets its fundraising targets annually. The incumbent will play a key role in the alumni relations portfolio, including liaison with the Concordia Alumni Association and alumni initiatives that build relationships and support to advance the Concordia’s mission and vision, as well as fundraising initiatives, with a focus on class giving, class reunions, and planned giving as we prepare for the anniversary of the university in 2021.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee program delivery, evaluation, and follow-up of signature alumni engagement programs.
  • Develop a strategic alumni plan that supports alumni engagement, donor stewardship, and prospect cultivation.
  • Prepare program reports and tracking documents using Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Provide guidance to the Alumni Association with creating voluntary alumni chapter groups for areas within the faculties that will help keep alumni involved.
  • Train volunteers using best practices.
  • Coordinate events and develop effective relationships with alumni hosts outside of Edmonton (travel program).
  • Track and update all department-initiated program and event attendance records in the Raiser’s Edge database as well as meet Development targets.
  • Strong writing and research skills to develop potential legacy donors through our alumni relationships.
  • Collaborate with Communications to develop an engaging social media strategy to attract alumni and grow our alumni outreach globally.
  • Coordinate the design and production of the promotional, electronic and printed materials for alumni programs, as appropriate.
  • Design and project manage a critical path of tasks (work plan) and timelines including budget.

Qualifications:

  • University degree (e.g. business, social sciences, or humanities), equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • 3-5 years experience working in alumni relations, fundraising, public relations, communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide and inform senior administrators and volunteers (e.g. volunteer boards) around training and engagement initiatives.
  • Proven track record of building plans and budgets that are aligned with organizational plans including meeting deadlines and skillfully manage multiple priorities.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal and a high degree of self-motivation and initiative; able to travel and attend evening functions when necessary.
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Access, Excel, Word).
  • Must be able to pass an Edmonton Police Service (EPS) security clearance.
